US envoy stresses dialogue between Kurdish parties
Russia called on the Iranian militias to leave important military sites west of Hama and near the city of Tartus in central and western Syria, to avoid the Israeli aerial bombardment, which has increased in frequency during the past few days.
A source close to the Syrian regime revealed in a statement to Asharq Al-Awsat that “during a meeting that included 3 Russian officers and their Iranian counterparts, which took place on Wednesday at Hama Military Airport in central Syria, the Russian officers informed the Iranian side of the necessity to evacuate Iranian military headquarters near the site of the Regiment (49). ), which is affiliated with the Syrian regime forces – which is considered one of the most important military sites (air defense) in western Hama because it contains the S200 model and other Russian-made military equipment – and the evacuation of a second Iranian military site in the Hamidiya area, south of Tartus governorate, to avoid giving the Israelis an excuse to continue the bombing while remaining Iranian presence in this important part of Syria.”
On the other hand, the US State Department’s special envoy to Syria, Nicholas Granger, urged the Kurdish parties to return to the dialogue table and resolve the outstanding contentious issues between the two sides of the political movement. He also discussed Turkish threats and promised more support.
Granger held meetings with leaders of the opposition Kurdish National Council and officials of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.
A member of the Presidium of the Kurdish Council, Muhammad Ismail, said in a contact with Asharq Al-Awsat that the delegation headed by Granger “confirmed at the beginning of his meeting that it was mandated by the US administration to meet and listen to all parties, and conveyed Washington’s viewpoint on many issues in Syria.”
