Sales of new cars in Switzerland and Liechtenstein stabilized in August following two months of decline. The electric vehicle segment continued to grow, while combustion engines rebounded.
Some 16,384 cars were newly registered during the month under review, which represents a tiny drop of 0.4% compared to August 2021, the association of importers Auto-Suisse said in a press release on Friday.
This quasi-stabilization of sales comes following a tumble of 19% in July, 18.2% in June and a rebound of 18% in May.
While in recent months petrol and diesel engines have struggled in the face of interest in electrics, petrol vehicles have accelerated by 5.4% and those running on diesel by 6.4% during the month under review. Electric cars accelerated by 2.3%.
Volkswagen, with a market share of 11.5% in August, remains the favorite brand of Swiss motorists, ahead of BMW (9.3%), Mercedes-Benz (8.7%) and Skoda (8.1%).
