VIDEO. “We hadn’t seen this for a while”: in Toulouse, the rush in the cheapest gas station in Occitania

the essential
Discounts on the price of a liter of gasoline caused a rush to the Total Access gas station in Les Minimes.

Customers parade. Behind the counter, an employee of the Total Access service station, on the boulevard de Suisse, in the Minimes district, cashes them frantically. It’s 3 p.m. Thursday. Usually, it’s a slow period. “From 8 am to 9:30 am, from 12 pm to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 7:30 pm, these are the usual rush hours. But there, customers flock in droves. We had not witnessed this phenomenon for a while”, exclaims the employee, dressed in an orange polo shirt stamped with the logo of the multi-energy company.

Since September 1, the discount of 18 cents on the price of fuel at the pump set up by the government last April has been reduced to 30 cents. In addition, the service stations of the TotalEnergies group apply a discount of 20 centimes on each liter of gasoline.

These two combined offers make Total Access des Minimes the cheapest service station in the Occitanie region. Information that many motorists have not missed. “The majority of customers have looked at price comparators on the internet,” slips the employee.

The billboard shows low fuel prices. Diesel costs 1.67 euros, unleaded 98 is 1.5 euros and 1.39 euros for unleaded 95.

“The price is always catastrophic”

Petrol pumps welcome the incessant ballet of motorists. Jérôme, who lives a few meters from the service station, is a loyal customer. “In normal times already, prices are lower than elsewhere. There, it’s great. It feels good to be able to refuel, ”he rejoices. After waiting a few minutes to refuel, Quentin, who works not far away, smiles broadly as he looks at the pump meter. Once the gun has finished spitting out the 95 liters of unleaded petrol, the young man smiles: “I pay my full 60 euros and a few instead of the 100 euros a few weeks ago. I use my car every day. These discounts are good for my wallet. »

If the discounts at the pumps delight the majority of customers, some still believe that the price of a liter of gasoline is still too high. “It is one of the heaviest charges. Since the price spike, I’ve been cycling to work. So, it’s true that the price per liter has dropped, but I’m going to remain vigilant,” confides Laurence, without taking her eyes off the pump meter. Christian, retired, shares his opinion. “In absolute terms, the discounts are significant. But the price of gasoline is still catastrophic. I think of people on the minimum wage, how do they do it? “, he lets go.
