Massive drug hunt in Saudi; 8 foreigners arrested

RIYADH: A large quantity of drugs smuggled to Saudi Arabia was seized. More than 47 million amphetamine tablets worth up to one billion dollars were seized in the international market. Security officials arrested 8 foreigners in the incident.

This is the biggest drug hunt in Saudi Arabia in recent times. About 47 million amphetamine pills were smuggled into the godown through Riyadh’s dry port, hidden inside flour sacks. A large cache of narcotic drugs was found in the godown by the Narcotics Control Directorate officials in coordination with the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority.

Eight people were arrested in the incident. Major Mohammad Al Nujaidi, spokesman of the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, said that six of them are Syrian citizens and two are Pakistani citizens. The Saudi Public Prosecutor has started further investigation into the incident.
