Stephen Curry, graduated and honored with great fanfare by Davidson

Decidedly, the awards and Stephen Curry, it is one. On a magical night for him and his Davidson college on Wednesday, the 34-year-old point guard not only had his jersey retired by his college, but he also graduated while being inducted into that college’s Hall of Fame. last. The story is beautiful!

Selected as the 7th choice of the Draft in 2009, Steph Curry – and that’s the least we can say – broke everything in the NBA. Far from being expected as a player who would revolutionize the Great League, Baby Face now has an XXL track record and has nothing to envy to the other legends of this sport: 2x MVP, 4x NBA champion, 1x Finals MVP (finally!) , 8x All-Star and the list goes on and on… In short, the guy won it all. However, an important step in his career had remained on stand-by: earning his university degree.. It is now done, since the leader of the Warriors went to his old university in Davidson on Wednesday to close the loop. Taking advantage of a big hype following his exploits in the NCAA, the sniper had decided to register his name in the 2009 Draft without performing the last year of his course. It therefore took him 13 years to return to his beloved university and obtain this famous diploma, a few months following having blown his 34 springs. A very beautiful story that allows everyone and especially him to remember where he comes from and how it all started.

In three college seasons (2006-09), the young Curry led his team twice to the NCAA final tournament, including once at the gates of the prestigious Final Four: it was during his second season, and he was already starting to show us flashes of what he would become later: 26 points per game, 48.3% on shots including 43.9% from afar. Very clean. Best scorer in the history of his college and also record holder for the number of 3-pointers scored (no kidding?), Steph was already in the annals of Davidson. However, it was impossible to have his shirt removed despite his sensational performances. Why ? Because the college announced in 2015 that he would only be entitled to this distinction once he had obtained his bachelor’s degree. A Bachelor of Arts with a major in sociology to be precise. What he did this year via video lessons. Studious, the Steph.

Present with all his little family, Steph Curry was dressed in official uniform like any good self-respecting American graduate. On the program: hugs, thanks, speeches, and of course glasses of champagne. Finally, we can imagine. With his jersey removed, he joins six former Davidson players on the ceiling of the room, but for the first time in college history a number is removed, and no one will be able to wear #30. Finally, as if that were not enough, know that he also joins the Hall of Fame of Davidson. His father Dell Curry mightn’t help saying what is now an open secret.

“The next Hall of Fame he will join, you know where he is! »

In Springfield, of course.

The circle is complete for Steph Curry at Davidson, he who is now eternally linked to his university. And the latter was able to thank him and honor him as it should. Let’s hope she keeps him a place as a sociology teacher for his post-NBA retraining!
