Isolate, isolate, they said, to deal with the energy crisis: yes, but you still have to have the finances. This is why the three regions of the country have set up aid bonus systems for renovation and energy-saving work. The budget provided for in Wallonia was however underspent due to two factors:
- Before any request for a bonus, it was necessary to realize an energy audit, and that the work envisaged be considered as a priority by the auditor in relation to the others to be planned. A brake for many, that we wanted to trim.
- The work absolutely had to be done. by a licensed contractor. Here too, it slowed down some households for certain “easy” jobs (roof insulation, for example).
This is why last May, the Walloon government approved a draft decree establishing an aid scheme complementary to the existing one, with an total budget of 72 million over the 2022-2024 period, as part of the regional recovery plan. And this system comes into effect… today. As of September 1, you can submit a request for bonuses for a series of works listed on the Walloon Region website.
What work can be covered by this new Walloon energy bonus?

Work to solve health problems: defect in the electrical/gas installation, natural lighting or insufficient ventilation, problems related to the height of the ceiling, the risk of falling, detection of dry rot or radon, etc.
What are the conditions for obtaining the bonus?
The new simplified aid mechanism is complementary to the housing premium system, which remains, with two important contributions:
- It is no longer necessary to have to carry out a preliminary energy audit
- Applicants will also be able to carry out certain work themselves, without going through professionals.
The premium is accessible to citizens as well as associations of co-owners, but there is a limit: the work must not not cost more than 3000 euros.
The amount of the premium depending on the type of work is detailed in this document. The basic amount of the premium can be multiplied by 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6 depending on your income and the composition of your household. But always with a maximum of 80% of the bill.
For certain works, the visit of an estimator is necessary. For the others, you can carry them out yourself (in certain cases) or via a contractor, then submit your application for the premium within 4 months following the last invoice. “Accelerating the energy renovation of private buildings”
“The aim is to accelerate the energy renovation of private buildings. As we know, the insulation of the roof very often appears in the first place of the recommendations during an energy audit. Citizens who now embark on the renovation of their roof will see their procedures greatly simplified”explained in a press release the Walloon Minister of Energy, Philippe Henry (Ecolo).
“The mandatory audit was also a hindrance for households wishing to carry out energy work on a smaller scale. They should now undertake them more willingly. In the context of the current energy crisis and soaring prices, it is a question of helping households to prepare their homes for next winter”.
