Some may have pain behind the ear, and this may indicate some ear-related problems, or some other health problem.

The Conselto reviews, in the following lines, the most prominent causes of pain behind the ear, according to the “Very well health” website.

Inflammation of the middle ear

Otitis media occurs when the middle ear space between the eardrum and the inner ear becomes inflamed and infected. Viral respiratory infections such as the common cold or influenza often lead to otitis media.

Symptoms of otitis media

Symptoms in teens and adults may include:

Mild to severe earache or pain behind the ear.

– Hearing impairment.

– fever.

– Throat pains.

Wax buildup in the ear

Wax is usually removed from the ear canal on its own. If this natural process is compromised, wax can build up deep in the ear canal and become hardened. Factors that contribute to earwax impaction include:

Regular use of ear cotton

Wearing a lot of headphones

Narrowing or twisting of the ear canal, as a result of a congenital defect

Symptoms of earwax buildup

If enough wax accumulates inside the ear, it may cause a number of symptoms, which are as follows:

Pain behind or inside the ear.

A feeling of fullness in the ear.

– hearing loss.

Desire to itch.

– Tinnitus.

otitis externa

Otitis externa, also known as “swimmer’s ear,” develops when the ear canal becomes inflamed. It can be the result of an infection, allergy, or a chronic skin condition. Factors that increase your risk of developing otitis externa include:

Excessive cleaning of the ear canal

Regular swimming that allows bacteria that normally live in the ear canal to enter the skin

Wearing earplugs or constantly wearing headphones, such as headphones for the hearing impaired

Symptoms of otitis externa

Tenderness of the outer ear, especially when stretched.

Itching inside the ear.

– hearing loss.

Discharge from the ear.

Entry of foreign bodies.

Foreign bodies or unfamiliar foreign objects.

A painful rash and blisters inside the ear canal or on the outside of the ear.

Severe ear pain that may spread to the neck.

– buzzing

– Hearing impairment.

– vertigo.
