Arrival of summer will increase bovine and equine diseases in Córdoba | THE UNIVERSAL

For this time of transition from winter to summer, diseases in horses and cattle in the department of Córdoba will increase exaggeratedly, according to research carried out by the University of Córdoba.

This result was presented by the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Unicórdoba, José Cardona Álvarez, within the framework of the Veterinary Education Forum, a world event held in Chile.

He explained that just at this time of transition from winter to summer, frequent diagnoses such as vesicular stomatitis, of viral origin; Herpetic mammilitis, pseudoexanthema, papillomatosis, Pityosis (produced by an aquatic microorganism), and habronemiasis, ensure that the clinical casuistry of diseases in large animals, especially horses and cattle, is high.

“Without a doubt, the incidence rate, depending on the management of each property, or the frequency of presentation, depending on the risk factors, varies,” said the academic in the forum organized by the Pan American Federation of Schools and Faculties of Medicine. Veterinary Medicine, the Pan American Association of Veterinary Sciences and the Pan American Council for Education in Veterinary Sciences.

Regarding the One Health approach, he said that there are many diseases in cattle that put the health of veterinarians at risk and cited as an example brucellosis and other viruses that can occur on the hands of milkers, nodular lesions called milker’s nodule , as well as other high-risk ones such as bovine parasitic rabies, which, although it can be controlled by a vaccine, can be a cause for neglect.

“We are always at risk of some disease transmission. It is important to keep in mind that in horses we can find diseases such as dermatomycosis and other viral diseases such as vesicular stomatitis, which is transmitted in the evaluation process, or equine viral encephalitis,” he pointed out.

At the congress, he also insisted that it is important for professionals to know how to prevent a disease that can be transmitted to the practice of Veterinary Medicine, which is known as professional diseases.
