A child died following presenting a clinical picture known as severe head trauma, a fact that was caused by his stepfather, who beat him repeatedly with the approval of the mother, in Monagas state.
The incident occurred on the main avenue La Cruz, and shortly following the duo was arrested for cruel treatment and infanticide.
The couple went to the emergency room of the La Pica outpatient clinic, where they found that the one-year-old boy no longer had any vital signs.
At the time, officials from the Investigative, Scientific, Criminal and Criminalistics Corps (Cicpc) went to the site and performed the autopsy required by law, in which the cause of death was verified and the stepfather’s guilt was immediately determined.
The security forces also held the mother responsible for the crime, who also allowed two more infants, one of three and another of six, to receive blows from the detainee.
The death of the child occurred following an altercation in the house, where there was an argument with the victim for “the pretext that he stopped sucking his thumb”, according to the director of the Cicpc, Douglas Rico.
Similarly, they revealed that Y. Fariñas Bellorin, nicknamed Yeni, mistreated her children with the use of the belt, this without any justification, and caused them multiple injuries.
Rico wrote that “as of this date, the injured victims will remain as protection and custody by order of the Council for the Protection of Children and Adolescents of the Maturín municipality.”
The Ninth Prosecutor’s Office of the Public Ministry took on the case for the prompt imputation of the culprits.
