The Venice Film Festival kicked off on Wednesday, with statements from the jury president, Julianne Moore, regarding the future of cinema.
The official opening of the festival is scheduled for later with the screening of “White Noise” by director Noah Baumbach.
Moore spoke regarding her role as chair of the jury, considering it a great honor to take on this role.
Moore said she first came to Venice during her participation in an American television series in 1986, noting that she did not expect at the time that she would one day be the president of the festival’s jury.
Moore is scheduled to watch 23 films in official competition with the six panelists before the festival’s main prize, the Golden Lion, is awarded on September 10.
“I feel the discussion regarding the future of cinema often ends up focusing on the commercial side,” Moore said.
“For me, the most important thing is what we create, what we keep creating,” she added.
