Controversy has arisen following it was revealed that a police officer investigating the ‘special preference for development of the Gongheung district’ involving President Yoon Seok-yeol’s mother-in-law Choi Eun-soon and his wife Geon-hee was invited to the inauguration ceremony of President Yoon.

According to the Ministry of Public Administration and Security and the National Police Agency on the 31st, Inspector A from the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit of the Gyeonggi Southern Police Agency was invited by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security to attend the presidential inauguration ceremony held at the National Assembly on May 10 this year. The investigation team, to which Inspector A belongs, is investigating allegations that President Yoon’s wife’s ‘family company’ received preferential treatment for promoting the development of the Gongheung district in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do.

An official from the Ministry of Public Administration and Security said, “I invited (Inspector A) because I received a police-related award last year.” However, it was confirmed that 3 out of 4 police officers who received the award along with Inspector A were not invited. An official from the Ministry of Public Administration and Security said, “We are confirming the reason why only some of the winners were invited.”
