Government proposes that August 30 be declared as ‘National Day of Persons Disappeared in Period of Violence’

The Executive power submitted a bill to the Board of Directors of the Congress which proposes declaring that August 30 be called the ‘National Day of the Disappeared during the period of Violence 1980-2000’.

According to the Government, in these 20 years of terrorist violence around 69,280 people have died, according to the report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (CVR)and the disappearance of more than 21,000 people, “whose families are still looking for their loved ones.”

The National Registry of Missing Persons and Burial Sites (Renade) has information on 21,918 people who disappeared during the period of violenceof which 39 have been found alive and 2,679 have been found dead and their bodies have been returned to their families, with the obligation to continue with the search processes for 19,200 disappeared persons.

The Executive also points out that the purpose of establishing a date for this issue seeks to “preserve memory, sensitize the population, in general, and the authorities and officials regarding the problem of people who disappeared during the aforementioned period of violence.” The legislative proposal will be seen by the Ministry of Justice.

The official letter bears the signatures of the President of the Republic, peter castleand the head of the Council of Ministers, Hannibal Torres.

August 30 is a holiday in Peru as it commemorates the day of Santa Rosathe patron saint of America and the Philippines, who dedicated her life to prayer and always helping the poor and sick.

For this reason, hundreds of faithful have gotten up early to be the first to enter the Sanctuary of Santa Rosa de Lima, in order to pay homage to her on her day.

President Pedro Castillo, nor the Prime Minister, Aníbal Torres, participated in the activities for Santa Rosa that took place in the Cathedral of Lima. Only the head of Congress, Lady Camones, was present at the protocol acts.

Government approved budget bill 2023

President peter castle announced a few days ago that the Council of Ministers approved the draft Budget, Financial Balance and Indebtedness Law for 2023.

These documents, which were sent to Congress, prioritize the health and education sectors.

According to the Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion, Alexander Salas, the 2023 public budget project amounts to more than S/ 214 billion. The figure is 9% higher than the budget established for this 2022, that is, S/ 17 billion more than this year would be delivered.
