Tight end Antony Auclair was released by the Houston Texans, but it’s possible the team will reinstate him in the roster over the next few days.

The 29-year-old Beauceron is still nursing a knee injury suffered at the start of training camp. Each of the NFL’s 32 teams was expected to reduce its roster to 53 players by the end of the day Tuesday, and Auclair was not spared the ax.
“I spoke to the Texans and everything indicates that it is a purely administrative decision rather than a reflection on the quality of player that Antony is. The Texans will continue to assess their roster in the coming days and we will stay in touch with them,” said Auclair agent Sasha Ghavami.
Guaranteed contract
Playing in the NFL since 2017, Auclair played the last campaign with the Texans, during which he took part in all meetings. To date, he has appeared in 56 games on the Goodell circuit.
Last March, the former Rouge et Or had agreed with Houston on a one-year contract extension for $ 1.6 million. This sum was guaranteed even in the event that the team had to release him. This is why the decision seems surprising.
Auclair would be very close to a return to the game, and the Texans might decide to bring him back on board or to replace him according to the players in his position made available elsewhere since the last reductions in staff.
In the draft last April, the Texans selected another tight end, Teagan Quitoriano, a 6-foot-6, 258-pound guy who will start the season on the short-term injured list.
In the event that the Texans decide not to bring Auclair back with the team, the latter would be free to agree with any other team, without going through waivers.
