Prime Minister Han Deok-soo “I never interfered with Lone Star when I was adviser to Kim & Chang and Deputy Prime Minister of Economy”

Regarding the outcome of the ISD (Investor-State Dispute Resolution System) international litigation between Lone Star and the Korean government, Prime Minister Han Deok-soo said, “I personally have never intervened in Lone Star at all.” said.

Prime Minister Han was an advisor to Kim & Chang, who acted as Lone Star’s legal representative when Lone Star took over Korea Exchange Bank in 2003, and was Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs during the Lone Star special audit in 2006.

In a meeting with reporters following finishing the signboard ceremony for the regulatory innovation promotion team this followingnoon, Prime Minister Han said, “I never intervened in Lone Star when I was an adviser to Kim & Chang, and in 2006 as the Deputy Prime Minister of Economy, I spoke and answered my convictions at the National Assembly. “I’ve never been involved in any action at all,” he said.

Prime Minister Han was criticized for saying that he was defending Lone Star by saying, “Without Lone Star’s investment, Korea Exchange Bank would have gone into bankruptcy.”

When asked regarding his views on the outcome of the lawsuit, Prime Minister Han declined to say, “It is difficult to say anything at this stage.”
