Lady Diana: this unsuspected request made to Michael Jackson which sealed their friendship

This Wednesday August 31 will mark the 25th anniversary of the tragic and still mysterious death of Lady Diana. The opportunity to come back to this day when the mother of William and Harry made an astonishing and funny request to Michael Jackson during a concert of the “King of Pop” at Wembley Stadium in 1988.

An unforgettable first meeting. In July 1988, Michael Jackson was in London to give a concert as part of a world tour following the release of his album Bad. And before the start of one of his shows in the British capital, the “King of Pop” received a visit from prince Charles and his wife Dianagrande of the Michael Jackson.

And that night, the singer had planned to perform his greatest hits … except one. Indeed, “MJ” had decided to remove the song Dirty Diana (“Sale Diana” in French) as a sign of respect for the princess. However, in this piece, he did not speak of Lady Di but of certain fans that he was able to meet during his concerts around the world.

Michael Jackson grants Lady Diana’s wish

And just before going on stage, Michael Jackson therefore had the honor of meeting the princely couple behind the scenes. For a few minutes, Lady Diana and the singer were therefore able to exchange a few words. And in 1997, almost 10 years following this meeting, the artist revealed the content of these exchanges. Michael Jackson had thus indicated that Lady Di had asked him if he planned to sing Dirty Diana during the concert. Faced with the singer’s negative response, the princess who loved this tube very much, begged the singer to add it to the concert repertoire. A request that he finally accepted.

Following this great moment, the two icons had established a true friendship. “JI don’t think anyone has been harassed more than her and me”, had entrusted Michael Jackson regarding Lady Diana. The death of the latter on August 31, 1997 had also deeply moved the singer who had decided to postpone a concert in Belgium shortly following the announcement of his death.
