A man waited until a winning Michigan lottery ticket was regarding a month to expire before going to collect his prizewhich was no less than $2.08 million dollars.
“I bought the ticket while I was in Michigan visiting family. When I checked the winning numbers and saw that I had won the jackpot, I was in disbelief!” the Pennsylvania man told Michigan Lottery officials, according to The Charlotte Observer.
The 59-year-old man had matched the numbers of the Lotto 47 game that were drawn on September 25, 2021, which were: 07-12-22-24-30-37.
The Lotto 47 lottery game rules state that all prizes must be claimed within one year from the date they were won or they will expire.
The player, who chose to remain anonymous, decided to wait almost the full year before claiming his grand prize.
“I waited to claim my prize until I had a plan for the moneysaid the lucky winner, according to lottery officials.
With that plan in place, the man recently visited Michigan Lottery headquarters and was given two options: collect a one-time payment of regarding $1.3 million or receive annual payments for the full amount of the jackpot.
The player chose a single lump sum payment, authorities said. Now, he plans to buy a new truck and save the rest of his money for retirement.
The winning ticket was sold at the Shoppers Market Plus store in Warren, which is part of the Detroit metro area.
