Unemployment in Chile fell again in the last 12 months and reached 7.9% in the May-July quarter | Economy

The increase in the employed population was influenced by commerce, manufacturing industry and households as employers. In parallel, the informal employment rate stood at 26.6%, down 0.3 pp. in twelve months.

The National Institute of Statistics of Chile (INE) communicated this Tuesday that the The unemployment rate in Chile during the moving quarter May-July 2022 was 7.9%.

The number meant decrease of 1.0 percentage points (pp.) in twelve monthsgiven that the increase in the labor force (7.4%) was less than that presented by employed persons (8.6%).

The report detailed that unemployed people decreased 4.8%, affected only by those who were unemployed (-5.8%).

The unemployment rate for women stood at 8.2% and 7.7% for men.

The rise in employed persons was affected by both women (12.1%) and men (6.2%).

By sectors, indicated the INE, “The increase in the employed population was influenced by commerce (8.5%), manufacturing industry (9.4%) and households as employers (27.9%), while by occupational category, formal wage earners (8.8%), self-employed workers (5.9%) and informal wage earners (8.5%) had an influence”.

Meanwhile, the informal employment rate stood at 26.6%, down 0.3 pp. in twelve months.

“Informal employed persons increased 7.6%, influenced by both women (14.7%) and men (2.5%), and according to occupational category, by persons private wage earners (11.5%) and self-employed workers (5.2%)”the report noted.

Finally, In the Metropolitan region, the unemployment rate for the quarter under analysis reached 8.3%, decreasing 1.2 pp. in twelve months, given the increase in the labor force (6.4%), which was less than that registered by employed persons (7.8%).

Unemployed people in that region contracted 6.5%, affected exclusively by those who were unemployed.
