The Legoland park officially settles on the former Caterpillar site in Gosselies

It’s official: Legoland is going to establish itself well on the former Caterpillar site in Gosselies. A press conference confirms the project this Tuesday morning, in the presence in particular of the Minister-President of the Walloon Region Elio di Rupo. The Caterpillar site had closed in September 2016. Since then, several projects had been announced without ever coming to fruition.

Last March, the continuation of the Legoland project was already confirmed, despite the delay caused by the health crisis. The establishment of the Legoland park on the former Caterpillar site “remains the priority project”, said the Walloon Minister of the Economy, Willy Borsus (MR). The Merlin group, owner of Legoland had confirmed its interest in the site, and was in discussion with the Region.

One of the biggest investments in Wallonia for 10 years

This park will be the 14th Legoland park in the world. If the project succeeds, it would be the second biggest investment in Wallonia in the last 10 years.

The work should take place in two stages, and occupy almost all of the former Caterpillar site. Some buildings will be maintained, in particular the offices. The project is expected to cost between 370 and 400 million euros. The Region will be a 50% partner in the company that will own the infrastructure. The Legoland park should create more than 1,000 new jobs.

The park is expected to open in 2027.
