Even before the IAEA inspection… Russia ‘holes in nuclear power plant building in Ukraine bombardment’

An inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the safety check of the Japoriza nuclear power plant, which is raising concerns regarding the ‘second Chernobyl’ crisis, will begin as early as the 31st.

However, military tensions in the region are seldom resolved, with Russia claiming that the nuclear power plant had a hole in the building due to shelling in Ukraine.

This is a photo of the Zaporiza nuclear power plant released by the Russian side on the 29th local time.

There are holes in the roof of the building, and the torn walls and tan marks are clearly visible.

A shell fired by the Ukrainian army fell on the roof of a building that stores fuel for the reactor, but the level of radiation at the nuclear power plant is normal.

“On the 28th, the Ukrainian military launched a drone to attack the Zaporiza nuclear power plant area. The drone was shot down while approaching a facility that stores nuclear fuel and solid radioactive waste.”

The risk of radioactive material leakage continues, such as shelling around the nuclear power plant and cutting off power supply due to a nearby fire.

However, the fighting parties are still fighting each other’s responsibilities, accusing each other of your fault.

The two countries also presented different perspectives and evaluations on the visits of the International Atomic Energy Agency and the IAEA.

Russia, which is occupying the nuclear power plant area, guarantees the safety of the support group and has expressed its intention to actively cooperate.

On the other hand, the Ukrainian side predicted that it would be “the most difficult mission in the history of the IAEA,” and was concerned regarding the ‘bad conditions’ the support team would experience in the field.

The inspection team, led by Secretary-General Rafael Grosi, and participated by 13 experts from neutral countries, has already arrived in Kiiwu and will conduct a three-day tour of the nuclear power plant as early as the 31st.

They will check the facility for physical damage and check that the safeguards are working properly.
