The mosques of Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah region received the attention of Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s project for the development of historical mosques in its second phase, which included 4 mosques in the region, with the aim of preserving them and returning them to the closest image to their original state, as well as preserving their functional characteristics and restoring their ancient splendor and aesthetics.
The historical mosques in the Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah region derive their importance from their close association with the honorable biography of the Prophet, and a number of sites related to the Islamic period, such as Al-Ula Governorate, which includes many monuments.
The total number of mosques that will be subject to development in the second phase of Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s project for the development of historical mosques is 30 mosques distributed over all regions of the Kingdom, and they will be developed according to modern mechanisms that ensure the integrity of materials and architectural designs following a careful assessment of the history, characteristics and advantages of each mosque.
Bani Haram Mosque
The Bani Haram Mosque is one of the most prominent mosques in the city targeted for development, which is not far from the Noble Prophet more than 1.68 km. The compatibility of the variables occurring on it between the ancient and modern historical eras, and its area before restoration is 226.42 m², and following development it increases by 10 m², while its capacity stands at 172 worshipers before and following the development.

The Al-Azem Mosque is located next to the historic fortress of Musa bin Nusair on the road linking the city of Al-Ula and Al-Hajar, and it dates back to the era of prophecy. And it will accommodate 580 worshipers, following it was unused.
Khaif Al-Hazami Mosque
The Khaif Al-Hazami Mosque or the Prince Radwan Mosque, as some call it, is located in the center of the town of Khaif Al-Hazami in Wadi Al-Safra, which is affiliated to Badr Governorate in the Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah region. The mosque has styles that reflect the links of the ancient building styles of the region with modern architectural styles, and its area will increase following restoration from 527.94 m² to 603.35 m², while its capacity will reach 180 worshipers following it was limited to 150 worshipers only.
Historic Citadel Mosque
The historic Al-Qalaa Mosque is located regarding 102 km northeast of Madinah. The project of Prince Mohammed bin Salman to develop the historic Al-Qalaa Mosque, which is more than 100 years old, gains its importance because it is located in the middle of the historic Al-Qala’a neighborhood in the town of Al-Hanakia. Its area before restoration is 181.75 m², and following development it will rise to 263.55 m², and its capacity will reach 171 worshipers following it was unused.
It includes 30 mosques in several regions.
