The following notice:

On 08/28/2022, and once morest the backdrop of a mass hunger strike in the Juvenile Prison – Roumieh in order to demand a reduction in the criminal prison year from nine months to six, a number of inmates claimed illness and demanded hospitalization for treatment.

When they were brought into the central pharmacy, the inmates in glasses made a mess. Then, the elements immediately went to control the events. The inmates who were brought to the pharmacy took advantage of the course of affairs, and filmed footage showing them in poor health conditions to provoke public opinion.

Immediately, prison officers and officers intervened in order to control the glasses, keep the prisoners inside, and protect the central pharmacy and the corridor leading to it, and the juvenile floor that contains the minors. At that time, the two prisoners (M.S.) and (H.Y.) attacked the security forces with sharp tools, and set fire to the room adjacent to Spectacles No. 8.

As a result, one of the sergeants sustained a wound in his right hand, which necessitated his transfer to the hospital for treatment. After that, a force from the Motor Vehicles Unit and members of the prison came and a full inspection of the building was carried out, where 12 cell phones, 15 electric chargers, telephone handsets, and a large number of sharp iron pieces manufactured inside the prison were seized.

In this context, the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces affirms that it is working hard, with all its ability, to secure all inmates’ requirements, rights, and health needs, and it will remain keen to provide them no matter how severe the crises.
