Tips for immediate help and prevention

Prevention Tips

Water in the ear does not necessarily have to result in unpleasant infections. Effective prevention can be done in two ways. On the one hand, it is important to avoid all influences that damage the natural protection of the ears.

Negative effects are known, for example, with:

  • cotton swab (can cause small sores in the ear canal, increasing the chance of infection)
  • in-ear headphones (promote a moist environment and the accumulation of earwax in the ear)
  • Moisture on or in the ear (instead, dry quickly and remove water from the ear)
  • swimming in waterthat is contaminated with bacteria or other pathogens (pay attention to information signs)

On the other hand, there are some measures that can prevent the water in the ear from causing damage. Special earplugs are a good idea when swimming, especially for people who often suffer from ear infections. They are made of silicone and seal the ears from the outside. This prevents water from getting into the ear at all. Antibacterial and earwax-dissolving ear drops are also suitable for preventive use.
