15 directors of the Trade Education Centers (CEM) and Vocational Training Center (CFP) received agreements from the Belgian Development Agency, Enabel, this Friday August 26, 2022 in Muramvya.
They will benefit through these grant agreements from direct funding of 737,000 Euros, or 1,604,000,000 BIF. The official launch ceremonies took place at the Muramvya Vocational Training Center.
Abou El Mahassine Fassi-Fihri, representative of Enabel in Burundi, said that thanks to funding from the Kingdom of Belgium, Enabel supports around twenty trades in these centers.
“We have launched a study and 55% of the winners have a chance of entering the job market”, he rejoiced. He nevertheless recognizes that there is work to do since the other half cannot yet have work.
According to him, more than 12,000 students have been trained through this partnership. They are delighted with the students, who now, thanks to the trade learned, are succeeding in their lives. He also maintains that the young people who leave the 15 centers are solvent when they obtain credits.
He calls on microfinance institutions, the Youth Investment Bank, the Women’s Bank, the Youth Empowerment Program not to hesitate to grant them loans. “The reimbursement rate is at a sufficient level”.
Speaking on behalf of the 15 officials of the Trades Teaching Centers, Bernard Rukerandanga, director of the Muyinga Center, thanked the ministry for choosing a wise partner.
He asked Enabel to continue its support. He also begged the Ministry of Education to continue to seek partners in the trades sector.
“Thank you to the Kingdom of Belgium for this commendable support”, reacted Nestor Niyonzima, Director General of Technical Education, Vocational Training and Trades. He ordered the provincial directors to commit themselves to closely monitor the use of these subsidies.
The directors of the vocational training centers and the director general in charge of technical education agree that this sector faces problems of lack of equipment and consumables.
“The partners have been mobilized. The Kingdom of Belgium is the leader, soon a project with the World Bank will begin”, reassured Mr. Niyonzima.
The 15 centers supported by Enabel expect 1,900 learners in 11 training courses. Burundi has more than 200 vocational training centres.
