« A blow to the constants of our diplomacy “. These are the words of Abir Moussi, president of the Free Destourian Party and opponent of Kaïs Saïed. This leader of a party claiming the political heritage of former Tunisian President Habib Bourguiba commented Saturday on a Tunisian radio on the diplomatic incident between Tunisia and Morocco following the presence of the Polisario leader at Ticad.
After Tunisia and Morocco recalled their respective ambassadors following a virulent communiqué from the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which also decided not to participate in with Ticad because of the incident, it is therefore the turn of the Tunisian political class to comment on the ” diplomatic faux pas “, in their words, of President Kaïs Saïed.
Abir Moussi is indeed not the only one to be heard. Former President Moncef Marzouki, critic of Kaïs Saïed and sentenced in absentia to four years in prison in Tunisia for remarks that undermine state security, has come out of his silence on social networks. In a Facebook post, he condemned what he considers to be a break with the usual Tunisian tradition of wanting to help reconciliation between Rabat and Algiers over Western Sahara. He described the reception of the Polisario as an irresponsible act and harmful to the interests of Tunisia.
Morocco continues to express its dissatisfaction and has announced that it is canceling its participation in the North African karate championship which is to take place in Tunis at the beginning of September.
