How to protect yourself from a toxic colleague?

A toxic colleague creates an imbalance in the relationship.

There are different types of toxic colleagues, who through their behavior and speech can affect the morale and self-confidence of their colleagues. To recognize them is already to begin to guard once morest them.

What are the profiles?

There are 3 profiles of toxic colleagues that can be encountered, and that it is important to know how to spot:
– the passive who collaborates but without getting involved and who does not react when asked for something.
– the aggressive who puts his needs before those of others and who imposes himself vis-à-vis colleagues, often in force.
– the passive-aggressive who manipulates with sentences that induce discomfort, for example: “I thought you knew” or “I think you can do more”.

Manipulation, influence or guilt are tools that the toxic colleague uses because of his personality and his behavior, including outside of work and without wanting to.

Knowing how to set limits

Becoming aware of how your toxic colleague works allows you to immediately set limits and keep an emotional distance to protect yourself. By avoiding saying too much regarding yourself or your ambitions, you avoid potential attacks.

Before the situation becomes unbearable, inform your hierarchy to try mediation and protect yourself.
