After exchanging treachery…Hamas and Jihad seek reconciliation in Beirut

Hamas and Islamic Jihad met in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, to discuss the tension between the two movements, following Hamas refrained from supporting Jihad in the face of the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip, in the confrontation between them at the beginning of this month.

The meeting included the Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad Movement Ziad al-Nakhala, the deputy head of the Hamas political bureau, Saleh al-Arouri, and the deputy head of the movement in Gaza, Khalil al-Hayya, according to what the “I24NEWS” website revealed on Saturday.

The two movements announced in a joint statement following the meeting that “any disagreement in the position between them is tactical, and cannot affect the essence, development and progress of the relationship.”

The meeting came following the two movements exchanged accusations of treason, and following several reports indicated that Islamic Jihad withdrew from the joint operations room, in protest of Hamas’ failure in the recent confrontation once morest Israel, which constituted a “stab in the back” according to Jihad.
