“A lot has happened here…”

42 years of good and loyal service. A lifetime for Patrick (61) and his sister Kathelijne (68) who have today decided to close their famous restaurant Het Biezeveld. An establishment which will have known events in more than forty years of existence. “A lot of things happened here: from a horse in the hallway to a dog giving birth”, remember in the columns of the Nieuwsblad the two managers.

Their well-known restaurant. Although hidden in the greenery between the centers of Lauwe, Marke and Wevelgem, it was still one of the nicest places to have a good meal or enjoy a drink. After a first decision in 2015, that of stopping the coffee part, the brother and sister decided to bow out for good. “With the death of my wife Sigrid, everything took off,” explains Patrick. A way for him to finally say goodbye to the woman of his life. He had met her when she had come to work as a student at the restaurant. “Perhaps the best memory of all”, concludes Patrick for a place full of stories

But Kathelijne and her brother do not intend to leave without saying goodbye to their customers and, above all, the employees they have met over the years. “The restaurant will be open until September 11. On September 17, there will be a meeting with all the employees who have worked there over the years. That’s 300 to 400 people! “150 to 200 will come. I think we still know most of them by their first names. »
