Due to the natural position the skeleton was found in, scientists are hopeful that further excavations will uncover other parts of the animal. The latter, which rested in sedimentary rocks of the Upper Jurassic, might be around 150 million years old. “[Cette découverte] confirms that the Pombal region has an important fossil record of vertebrates from the Upper Jurassic, which has allowed, in recent decades, the discovery of abundant material”, said Elisabete Malafaia. These are “very important for the knowledge of the continental faunas that populated the Iberian Peninsula regarding 145 million years ago”she adds.
