Quintero is going to “stick” to President Petro’s visit to Ituango

The Medellín Mayor’s Office announced that Daniel Quintero will leave for Ituango this Saturday where Gustavo Petro will make his first official visit to Antioquia territory as president.

After your visit to El Tarra, Norte de Santander, where he was acclaimed by the population, President Petro’s team announced its presence this Saturday in the municipality of Norte de Antioquia where it is expected to install a Unified Command Post for lifebeing Ituango one of the 65 territories prioritized by the National Government for the installation of these PMUs whose objective is to curb threats once morest social leaders and the civilian population.

Petro will be accompanied by his interior minister, Alphonse Prada and by Senator Iván Cepeda who chairs the Senate Peace Commission. She is also expected to be the senator of the Historic Covenant, isabel zuleta.

According to several social leaders and residents of the municipality, hundreds of peasants undertook the trip from the villages to the urban area since this Friday. Some will have to travel for hours aboard ladder cars along trails to reach the municipal seat, where they hope to have a space in which the president listens to his requests.

Ituango currently condenses all the evils that fuel the conflict: presence of armed groups such as ELN, Clan del Golfo and dissidents; illicit crops, multinational interests for large-scale mining; high rates of unsatisfied basic needs; and presence of victims of the armed conflict.

The Mayor’s Office did not explain what objective Mayor Quintero will fulfill in Ituango. It should be remembered that although in May 2021 Quintero agreed, following several requests from that territory, to sit down to dialogue with the communities affected by Hidroituango, from said dialogue table deep solutions never came out and since then, on several occasions, community leaders not only from Ituango but from the other municipalities of Northern Antioquia in the area of influence of the mega-project have requested the presence of the president so that he reaches concrete agreements, together with EPM, to provide a solution. to the impacts they have suffered and will suffer when the project comes into operation. This, however, has not happened.
