Why Red Bull F1 chose Spa for Verstappen’s PU replacement penalty / Belgian Grand Prix[F1-Gate.com]

Red Bull Racing F1 team principal Christian Horner has explained why Max Verstappen chose Spa-Francorchamps as the circuit to receive the PU replacement penalty.

Red Bull Racing has decided to replace Max Verstappen’s power unit ahead of the F1 Belgian Grand Prix. His rival Charles Leclerc and others have made the same choice, starting the final of the F1 Belgian Grand Prix from the back of the grid.

“We have to look at the calendar strategically,” commented Christian Horner.

“And then we have to look at the circuit. It felt a bit tight to reach the end of the season with the engine allocation that we have.”

“Zandvoort don’t want to take penalties. Monza is actually harder to overtake than you think. I’d like to avoid Singapore too. Japan is tricky to overtake.”

“Then you are out of options. This is a good circuit for overtaking and we feel we should be able to go fast here, so we decided to take the opportunity here.”

“This is probably the lowest delta required for overtaking in the season. Koo and Bahrain are probably two of the easiest circuits on the calendar to overtake, so probably a lot of people. took a penalty and I think they chose this circuit to put the engine in the pool for the rest of the season.”
