Milestones of alpine folk music | FR | 26 08 2022 | 17:30

The musicians Silvio Peron and Gabriele Ferrero traveled 14 valleys with their organetto (diatonic accordion) and violin. Some of these valleys branch off into the mountains southwest of Turin, the rest of the mostly narrow paths find their entrance behind Cuneo. In all of these Valli Occitane there were different traditions of playing the violin until the early 1990s, various pieces for the smallest of groups, mostly in a duo with a harmonica player.

What all these musical traditions have in common is the functionality of the music. The game was mainly played on simple balls, which were used for fun following the hard farm work. It is thanks to Silvio Peron and Gabriele Ferrero that these pieces were “saved”, i.e. noted down and immortalized on sound carriers through the playing of the two young musicians.
