ABU DHABI, 26th August, 2020 (WAM) — The Women’s Platform for Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy of the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), announced today the conclusion of the first field training course in Rwanda for girls in off-grid rural communities, with the aim of teaching them how to benefit from energy solutions. available clean energy in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7, which calls for ensuring universal access to affordable, reliable and sustainable modern energy services.
The first edition of the training course was held in the Gazibo region under the title “Rural Energy Saving: Designing and Implementing Comprehensive Energy Systems for Local Communities” as part of the efforts of the “Wiser Cares” program that was launched this year and focuses on activating the role of female affiliates of the “Women Pioneers” program. The platform aims to engage them in practical and multidisciplinary educational programs that focus on enhancing the components of sustainable development within societies.
The Women Pioneers Program, launched in 2018, and extends throughout the year for women between the ages of 25 and 35, provides educational workshops and opportunities to network with global experts, and motivates them to become entrepreneurs who play an active role in building a more sustainable future.
The six-day training course included 14 girls, including nine participants from the “Pioneers” program and five female professionals in Rwanda, who participated in a series of lectures and practical projects supervised by international experts in the field of renewable energy and sustainable development, focusing on four areas: technologies power systems and service models; business energy provision and financing models; Inclusion of all segments of society, achieving social change and human development; and climate adaptation.
