Gembloux: a march in tribute to Nico Becker

Flocked t-shirts, the deafening noise of the engine, a banner with the inscription “Tribute to Nico, justice”: the relatives of the 21-year-old Jemeppois, shot dead on August 8, paid him a vibrant tribute on Thursday. All dressed in white, there were more than a hundred for this march in the center of Gembloux. The procession, which started around 11:30 a.m., descended the Grand’Rue for a first stop in front of the “Dynamic Pool” café. A place frequented by Nico Becker but also Gaëtan Legros, the main suspect placed under an arrest warrant for the head of assassination and arson.

After a good twenty minutes of contemplation, the group turned around, this time taking the car in the direction of the Vieux Noyer chip shop along the Chaussée de Namur, the establishment managed by Gaëtan Legros and also his home he shared with the second suspect, prosecuted as a co-perpetrator, Alix Verbruggen. A highly symbolic place for the family since it was at the back of this building that Nico Becker was shot. The accused, who is in confession, fired a first time from the window of his accommodation with a precision weapon in the chest of the victim before descending, taking another weapon, and shooting at point-blank range in the skull from Jemeppois.

The banner fixed in front of Gaëtan Legros’ chip shop

So that no one forgets Nico Becker, and also the facts, the family fixed the banner next to the entrance to the chip shop. “We thank you for being present”said the family who did not wish to speak to the press on Thursday.

The march then ended with the release of balloons and the laying of flowers while the bikers, close to Nico Becker’s family, revved their engines one last time.
