When the mayor of Watermael-Boitsfort, Olivier Deleuze (Ecolo), learned that the municipality was supplying its vehicles with gas from Lukoil, he reacted immediately: “This had to be stopped quickly.” By decision of the municipal college, the school bus and the “2 or 3 trucks” who run on gas will now buy from Dats 24, a supplier whose gas does not come from Russia.
“Personnel managers told me a few weeks ago that we had a partnership with Lukoil simply because it was the nearest pump. The personnel had a card, went to refill the vehicles with gas and Lukoil sent us the bill.” In support of the Ukrainians, the mayor then decided to turn his back on the Russian supplier. “I asked to launch a market study to find a supplier whose gas does not come from Russia.”
Price level: “see you there”, adds the mayor even if it was not the primary concern of the municipality. The former co-president of Ecolo assures that the date of this announcement has nothing to do with a particular event. This August 24, however, corresponds to the anniversary of the declaration of Ukrainian independence. “It is simply the administrative delay to record the change.
Last April, activists called for a boycott of Lukoil stations. The company then replied that they were on the wrong target and that these actions would harm Lukoil’s staff here in Belgium more than the Russian regime.
