Uber Pool is back… but with a different name and better algorithms.
The Covid continues to fade and leaves its place in the news (among others) to the purchasing power crisis. Uber therefore adapts and offers this Thursday the return of shared races for those who wish. Paris is the first city in Europe to benefit from it.
Uber Pool devient UberX Share
Before 2020, what some call ” the world before Uber offered the Uber Pool option. She offered to share her journey, and therefore the cost of the race, with a stranger, provided of course that she agreed to make a detour. The health restrictions linked to Covid-19 have nevertheless made it impossible to use this service, until now.
The option is now called UberX Share and is intended, as its name suggests, to be a variation of the traditional UberX offer, with additional sharing. According to Uber, the price of the race appears 10% cheaper on average than the UberX option. However, the longer the detour required to transport other passengers, the greater the reduction, which can reach 30%.
Be careful though, a crucial point differs from the UberX offer. With UberX Share, the person ordering the ride cannot be accompanied. “Only three people, in addition to the driver, can be picked up consecutively and travel in the car“says the press release.
Improved algorithms
This transition from Uber Pool to UberX Share also signals an improvement in service. The technology behind customer management is designed to minimize detours with optimizedmatchingjourneys.
Also, unlike Uber Pool, UberX Share will no longer require its users to walk to a meeting point to join the chauffeured vehicle. A point that tended to frustrate customers and sometimes slow down the race.
Limit the ecological impact?
Uber also prides itself on addressingusers looking for mobility with a controlled environmental impact“, since”by sharing and moving more people in fewer cars, Uber is helping reduce traffic congestion and emissions in the city ».
However, UberX Share being a variation of UberX, the vehicles used can be thermal, hybrid or electric (the objective remains to go to 0 diesel in 2024). On a trip, it therefore seems less impactful to take an Uber Green, guaranteeing the use of an electric car (or hybrid at the limit). An Uber Green Share offer would actually be ideal.
Is the electric car greenwashing or is it really a viable solution to reduce CO2 emissions? In this file, we will examine the different environmental impacts of the electric car during the entire…
