It is undoubtedly the technological slap of Gamescom, Corsair presents a screen developed with LG Display: a beautiful Oled panel which can bend.
The well-known tech brands of gamers were present at the Gamescom to unveil some new products. Corsair was one of them for a surprise and a wow effect like tech shows like to offer. The Corsair Xeneon Flex is a large 45-inch screen that can become curved at will.
Curved or normal, it’s when you want
Curved screens are very fashionable, especially among gamers who can appreciate the immersion provided by a screen covering more of the field of vision. On the other hand, this curvature is often an enemy of creative people, since it necessarily distorts dimensions and perspectives.
Corsair has partnered with LG Display to answer this dilemma by offering choice. It is a screen that can therefore be folded manually – by applying pressure to the edges – in order to switch it to 800R curved mode or, on the contrary, to restore it to its flat format.
We were able to try it on the copy present at Gamescom, and switching from one mode to another is very easy, without ever forcing. The brand tells us that the screen is guaranteed for 10,000 folding and unfolding. It will therefore not be necessary to switch from one mode to another 20 times a day.
Beyond the gimmick, a stunning screen
That design innovation aside, the Corsair Xeneon Flex also impresses with its spec sheet. We are facing an Oled screen made in LG Display whose expertise is well established. With its diagonal of 45 inches and its 21:9 format, the Xeneon Flex displays 3440 x 1440 pixels.
On the video game side, we can note a latency of 0.03 ms in GtG and a frequency rising to 240 Hz, adaptive with G-Sync and FreeSync Premium.
Apart from the infinite contrasts, Oled panels have the advantage of offering excellent HDR capabilities. Here, the maximum brightness is announced at 1000 nits.
Quid du burn-in ?
The issue of burn-in immediately arises when talking regarding Oled screens, especially on PCs where the permanent interface elements on the screen can easily mark. Corsair promises to have established a prevention system “that works both with the screen on and off“. The brand adds a three-year warranty once morest burn-in and dead pixels.
Availability and prices
The launch of the Corsair Xeneon Flex is scheduled for the end of 2022. Corsair does not reveal the price, but it is understood that it will not be given in view of the advanced features. The price to pay for a technology showcase.
The front-end competitor of this new screen is clearly the Alienware 34 QD-OLED which convinced us at the start of the year. Hopefully Corsair can offer better inventory than its competitor. The Alienware has been hard to find since its launch.
