[台北 25日 ロイター] – Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense has announced that it will deploy anti-unmanned aerial vehicle (Drone) defense systems to offshore islands starting next year. A video of a Chinese drone flying over a security post in Kinmen, near China, and soldiers throwing stones has been circulated.

China held military drills around Taiwan in response to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan earlier this month. Tensions between the two sides have increased following repeated drone flights over Taiwan’s islands.

The video in question first circulated on Chinese social media and was picked up by Taiwanese media. Two soldiers are seen throwing rocks at the drone as it approaches the guard post.

The Kimmen Defense Command said in a statement on the night of the 24th that the incident occurred on the island of Erbi on the 16th, saying it was a civilian drone and confirming that soldiers threw rocks at it to scare it away.

He accused the video of being China’s “cognitive warfare” once morest Taiwan, with the aim of “defaming” the Taiwanese military.

In a separate statement, the defense ministry said it plans to deploy an anti-drone defense system starting next year. It was decided to start with the offshore islands first.

China has not yet responded to the video.
