Mattannur election result: Media turns a blind eye Kerala | Deshabhimani

Mattanur
Turning a blind eye to the media campaign that the UDF made a huge advance in the Mattannur municipal elections. The right-wing media’s story-making has taken the helm of the UDF campaign to shine light on LDF’s landslide victory for the sixth time in a row. As in the last five elections, the LDF won more than 50 percent of the votes. The media belittles this brilliant victory by highlighting only that the UDF has doubled its seats.

UDF won 14 seats this time. In 2012, the UDF got 14 seats out of a total of 34 seats. Only 20 for LDF. In 2017, LDF got 28 seats while UDF got 35 seats. In the special situation of 2017, the Left made an eye-catching leap with a four-fifths majority. While BJP and SDPI got votes for their own candidates, the secular party got a huge victory.

This time, SDPI contested only four seats and lost votes to UDF elsewhere. UDF also colluded with BJP. Still, the UDF might not come close to majority.

The LDF won more than 50 percent of the votes in a crowning display of public support, defeating all unholy alliances. In 12 of the 21 wins, the LDF has a majority of 242 to 580 votes. UDF won in seven wards by less than 50 votes. Less than 20 votes in four places. LDF’s lead is less than 50 in only three seats.
