Joan Mir is injured for Misano / MotoGP

Suzuki works driver Joan Mir has to wait for the Misano GP from 3./4. give up September. The injuries in the right ankle following the crash in Spielberg are more severe than expected.

The most recent investigations revealed today that Suzuki Ecstar works driver Joan Mir suffered damage to the bones and ligaments in his right ankle when he fell in Spielberg. The doctors have therefore prescribed a rest period of 15 days.

Joan Mir crashed on the opening lap at the Austrian GP at the Red Bull Ring on Sunday. The first x-rays on Sunday at the Medical Center revealed a small fracture in the talar bone of the right ankle.

Joan Mir flew back to Spain on Sunday, where the Mallorcan had further medical checks carried out. On Monday he visited Dr. Juan Garcías in the Juaneda Miramar Hospital in Palma de Mallorca. Because the doctors wanted to be on the safe side, first a computer tomography and then an additional MRI were made.

Doctors wanted to make sure the left talar bone was intact. dr However, Juan Garcías only found damaged ligaments in the right ankle, so he urged caution. That’s why he recommended that the 2020 MotoGP World Champion not put any strain on his ankle for the next 15 days.

“The patient suffered an injury to the ligaments in the ankle area and a slight chipping of the talus bone. The ankle is stable. The navicular bone was not badly affected either,” was the diagnosis. But because of the damaged ligaments, there was first and second degree instability in the right ankle.

Joan Mir will undergo further tests in 154 days. Then it is determined whether he is on 17./18. September at MotorLand Aragón once more.

“After some further examinations, the doctors recommended that I rest for 15 days,” confirmed Joan Mir. “Unfortunately I will miss the Misano GP because of this. But I’m confident that I’ll be back in Aragón. I would like to thank Dainese and AGV for the first class protective clothing. They helped me get out of this bad fall without serious injuries.”

“It’s been a tough season so far,” sighed Joan Mir, who will drive alongside Marc Márquez at Repsol-Honda in 2023 and 2024. “But I’m sure we’ll come back stronger. I want to give my team a few more happy moments this season.”
