The Labor Committee for the employees and workers of the Beirut and Mount Lebanon Water Corporation held a meeting at the headquarters of the General Federation of Lebanon Trade Unions, in the presence of the head of the union, Captain Maroun El-Khouli, and decided to “declare a warning general strike in all the departments and departments of the Beirut and Mount Lebanon Water Corporation, tomorrow, Tuesday, in response to the threats made by some heads of departments.” For employees and workers not to participate in the labor committee’s moves aimed at stopping the violation of the rights of workers in the establishment, which has reached the point of starvation and enslavement so that salaries do not exceed a dollar and half a dollar per worker for each working day, including the cost of transportation.
And she confirmed that she “assigned Captain Al-Khouli to explain her suffering and the planned union move in a press conference to be held tomorrow followingnoon, Tuesday, at the headquarters of the General Union in Jal El Dib.”
And she considered that “the threats received by a number of workers and employees will not deter us from demanding our rights, but rather will increase our determination to obtain them and achieve all our demands for more than twenty years.”
She stressed that “the battle to restore dignity will begin tomorrow, and the union struggle is the only way to restore it.” And for the return of honest and independent union work.
