Pfäfers SG: Mother and child fatally injured by a falling tree trunk

The woman was traveling with her son and other people on the gravel road from Bad Ragaz in the direction of the Tamina Gorge. The road is bordered on the left by a stream. On the right is an almost vertical rock face. This is equipped with trees in the upper part.

A tree trunk came off the top of the wall and fell onto the street. There the tribe met the mother, who lived in the canton of Appenzell-Ausserrhoden, with her son. Unfortunately, the members of the rescue and the emergency doctor of the AP3 air rescue might only determine the death of the two.

The old Badstrasse is a popular, flat gravel road that leads from Bad Ragaz to the Tamina Gorge. It is celebrated by hundreds of people on excursion days. The road is closed to private traffic. There is an hourly post bus connection.

After the incident, all hiking trails in the area were closed. The route from Bad Ragaz to the Altes Bad Pfäfers restaurant will certainly be closed until Monday evening. The restaurant remains closed. On Monday, the approximately four-kilometer route will be checked by experts.

This road is visually inspected three times a week by employees of the road district inspectorate in Buchs. The last time this happened was on Friday followingnoon. Every spring, the route is checked by forestry experts and high-altitude workers and trees are felled if necessary.
