According to ETNews, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra should indeed be entitled to a 200 megapixel sensor. More generally, manufacturers are tending to beef up their game this year with main sensors that are increasingly supplied with megapixels.
If the Galaxy S23 are not expected before the start of 2023, the first rumors and other leaks regarding them have nothing to do with Samsung’s commercial calendar. In recent months, several of them have attracted the attention of the specialized media. Among them: the presence, supposedly, of a 200 megapixel sensor.
This novelty would however be exclusive to the Ultra version. At the beginning of August, the leaker Ice Universe was also convinced. This time it’s the turn of the media ETNews to hand over a piece. According to him, Samsung has confirmed to certain industrial partners the arrival of a 200 megapixel sensor on the S23 Ultra.
A leap forward
Obviously, that would be a huge leap from the 108-megapixels of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. But we know that the Korean giant has developed an even more efficient component, the Isocell HP1, which might nevertheless quickly give way to Isocell HP2, precisely tipped to invite itself on the S23 Ultra.
The fact is that a 200 megapixel sensor produces extremely heavy photos, which would then take up a lot of space on your devices. But Samsung will, like many other manufacturers, use the principle of pixel binning — which consists of merging pixels — to generate 12-megapixel images.
The race for megapixels
The pixel binning has the advantage of bringing more light into your shots and better managing low-light shots. Let’s say that the Galaxy S23 Ultra might clearly beef up its game in night photography. Obviously, it will be necessary to wait until its formalization to have the heart net.
More generally, the race for megapixels seems to have picked up once more this year. In addition to Samsung, Apple should also harden the tone with a 48 megapixel sensor on all of its new iPhone 14s. Motorola, for its part, did not wait for anyone to install a 200 megapixel sensor on its X30 Pro.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is already revealed through leaks and rumors. 200 megapixel sensor, telephoto lens, Snapdragon chip… we take stock of all the expectations around the next flagship of the Korean giant.
