| Gold at the Under-20 Wrestling World Championship, a historic finish

Sofia (Bulgaria): India’s final Pangle made history by winning gold at the U-20 World Wrestling Championship. Antim Pangle (8-0) defeated Kazakhstan’s Atlin Shagayeva in the final of the 53 kg category.

This is the first time in the 34-year history of the championship that an Indian girl has made it to the medal list. 17-year-old Antim is a resident of Bhagana village in Hisar district of Haryana.

Antim won all the matches including the final by a huge margin. Her best win was an 11-0 win over European champion Olivia Andrich. She defeated Japan’s Ayaka Kimura in the quarter-finals and Ukraine’s Natalia Klitschko in the semi-finals.

Antim Pangle’s elder sister Saritha is a member of the Indian Kabaddi team. Antim Pangle said that it was his sister’s achievements that inspired him to move forward. The actor said that his dream is to win a medal in the Olympics for India.

Sonam Malik won the silver in the 62 kg category and Priyanka won the silver in the 65 kg category. Ritika (72 kg) and Sito (57 kg) also won bronze through the repache round. India has won 12 medals in the championship so far. The men won one silver and six bronze.
