“The worst country to be a child is Chile”: Mix and NGOs accuse that video was edited and taken out of context | National

A video highlighting child labor in Bolivia and arguing that Chile is the “worst country to be a child” was released this Friday, it is the record of an activity by the NGO Doctor Rene Panozo, in which Deputy Claudia Mix and Councilor Ka Quiroz, who assured that it is an edited film taken out of context.

A controversy was recorded this Friday following the video of an activity was broadcast in which the deputy Claudia Mix (Commons) and the councilor of Maipú Ka Quiroz -from the same party- where it was assured that Chile “is the worst country to be a child” .

The video was released by the journalist José María del Pino, that showed an activity carried out at the Amaranta Gómez School in Ñuñoa for the day of trans children (August 19), organized by the Doctor René Panozo Foundation.

“Childhood is usually invisible in our country, I don’t say so, the statistics say so. The worst country to be a child is Chile, beyond the fact that it seems not, because Bolivia, for example, has working children and the boys and girls march on May 1 for their work and for a good salary, Beware, Bolivian children do not want to stop working,” says a woman in the video in question.

“While here in Chile with euphemisms we say an end to child labor, but we let them starve.
We want to be able to relate, we want to be able to understand that boys and girls not only play, play is an important part of their lives, but it is also important that they are aware of their processes, that they are aware of what they produce in their path”, added later in the extract.

The dissemination of the video caused the reaction of the Ombudsman for Children, who on their Twitter account categorically rejected the “normalization” of child labor and stressed that it is a “violation of the human rights of children and adolescents.”

“It is worrying that in school instances -and of any other type- child labor is normalized and promoted, since this practice constitutes a violation of the human rights of children and adolescents that we must urgently eradicate as a country”, the institution maintained.

Foundation and policies show decontextualization

From the Doctor René Panozo Foundation they ruled out having promoted child labor and assured that the video in question was edited and taken out of context by those who spread it.

“Today regarding a one-minute video, taken out of context, that is circulating on social networks, and where they try to make us look like we agree with child labour, we want to clarify what; WE DO NOT AGREE, NOR DO WE SUPPORT CHILD LABOR OR EXPLOITATION, and that the comparison made in the video, which was re-edited by those who publish it, points out that even in our country childhoods continue to be invisible and without rights, It is only enough to read the gender identity law to realize how the Chilean state continues to fail to protect children,” the Foundation said in a public statement.

“For any doubt or question, we invite you to visit our social networks to learn regarding our work, and we are willing to talk and dialogue with those who, with respect and knowing our work, wish to approach our school and foundation to talk with children, parents and the community at large,” the statement added.

For her part, Deputy Claudia Mix, who participated in the activity, reiterated that the video was taken out of context and that they would never endorse child labor.

“Don’t just be left with an excerpt edited and taken out of context, We would never endorse child labor,” the deputy said in a statement.
