Health Canada authorizes a booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 years.
This is the first COVID-19 vaccine authorized as a booster dose in this age group.
The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommends it “following an interval of at least 6 months following completion of a primary series of COVID-19 vaccines to all children 5-11 years of age”.
NACI also recommends that children 5 to 11 years of age, “who are moderately to severely immunocompromised, be immunized with a three-dose primary series with an mRNA vaccine, with an interval of 4 to 8 weeks between each dose.”
Selon le CCNI, “As of July 17, 2022, 42% of the population aged 5-11 years in Canada were vaccinated with a primary series”.
