Coming out of the Equine Academy carousel, the reins of a carriage gave way. Seized, the horse that was attached to it began to run on the road, ejecting the occupants of the carriage.
Wesley Portugaels, 29, spotted the horse and his carriage on the road on his way home. “No one dared to overtake him, probably not to scare him,” he told our colleagues from HLN. The young man still undertook to block the road, but the horse began to gallop.
In a sort of reflex, Wesley climbed onto the animal’s back, then into the carriage and used the last piece of rope that connected the horse to the vehicle to try to control it while waiting for reinforcements.
The horse was finally able to be subdued and brought back to its stable and the occupants escaped with a few bruises. If the equestrian center thanks Wesley for his intervention, he is aware of the fact that he took enormous risks: “It might have been much worse”.
