As a reminder, the facts took place on Tuesday evening, Rue de la Grande Île, in the center of Brussels. Marnix Decuyper traveled to Brussels as part of his job, he who is a real estate expert. As we explained to you, the 46-year-old from Brussels entered the street, which had become inaccessible to traffic following the new traffic plan, which came into force the same day. But according to the driver, his GPS had not yet been updated and adopted the new regulations. That’s when he pulled into the street and the picket came up, going through his engine.
The driver confided in our colleagues from HLN, telling them his version of the facts. “I was driving regarding five to ten meters behind the vehicle in front of me when I suddenly heard a huge noise and my car was thrown through the air. We are still investigating whether I am really at fault, but I think the most striking is that such a bollard might simply puncture my car. What if my batteries were hit? According to the police, I would have been a fried chicken.”
Injured, the Brussels resident was helped by local residents who pulled him out of his car. “I have a bruise on my sternum. My glasses are broken and my forearms and my legs are burned. My right leg is also black and blue”, he confides to our colleagues.
Since the introduction of the new traffic plan, many residents have been angry. And Marnix Decuyper agrees: “The whole traffic plan is absurd and clearly drawn up by someone who does not drive a car, but only rides a bicycle”.
