The wedding of Princess Maria-Laura of Belgium to William Isvy will take place on Saturday September 10 in Brussels, announced Thursday followingnoon the couple’s private spokesperson, Hervé Verhooselle, and the mayor of the City of Brussels Philippe Close ( PS). The wedding hall of the Brussels City Hall will be the venue for the civil wedding. The couple wants this official moment to remain private. Only close family is invited.
The religious ceremony will take place in front of a larger audience that same day at 2:30 p.m. in the cathedral of Saints Michel and Gudule. More than 500 guests were invited, including the Belgian royal family as a whole.
“Despite living in London, it was important for them to get married here in Belgium“, underlined Hervé Verhooselle. “It’s a good opportunity for Laura to show Brussels and our beautiful country to her in-laws, but also, as the mayor noticed, because Laura’s parents (Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz) got married here at City Hall on September 22, 1984“.
It’s going to be a moment of joy and it’s a beautiful image for Brussels
The mayor adds that “all Belgians also have in mind the wedding of Philippe and Mathilde at the town hall. When a member of the royal family gets married here, it’s always moving. It’s going to be a moment of joy and it’s a beautiful image for Brussels“.
The guests of the civil wedding will be welcomed by 24 Brussels police cadets in the central courtyard of the town hall. The civil witnesses will be on the one hand the sisters of Princess Maria-Laura, Princesses Luisa and Lætitia, and on the other hand the brother and sister of William Isvy.
The Catholic ceremony with disparity of worship will be celebrated by Cardinal Jozef De Kesel. Christian and Jewish songs will be heard.
The ring, a sapphire surrounded by diamonds, was designed in Jaipur by “Gem Palace“, the oldest institution of fine jewelery in India.
The parents of the bride and groom will receive their loved ones during private receptions given in Brussels following the wedding.
