New financial performance for Hapag-Lloyd

During this period, Africa is the only global market where Hapag-Lloyd’s traffic growth has been so strong in the first six years of the year. If this region of the world allowed him to transport only 326,000 TEUs, this volume marked an increase of 44% compared to the first half of 2021.
A jump which is obviously due to the integration of the Dutch NileDutch. But this does not mean that this strong increase has disturbed the planetary order on the African market. Its traffic in the sector represented only 5% of all that was shared by all the carriers.
The Far East enabled it to board its container ships with 1.17 M TEUs, down 1% from 2021, however. A region of the world which represents 20% of the market share in the sector.
Latin America generated a volume of 1.48 M TEU for the company, down 3% year-on-year. A market in which it controls no less than a quarter of world flows in the sector compared to all of its partners and competitors
On the transatlantic market, the Germanic group transported 1 M TEU. A stagnating figure compared to 2021 but which represents 17% of the global market.
The ships of the German shipping company embarked on the transpacific sector 861,000 TEUs. A traffic which was down over one year by 4% but which constitutes 14% of the flows in the world.
In the Middle East, the increase in the number of TEUs rose by 2% to reach 802,000 TEUs. The intra-Asian market represented 311,000 TEUs for Hapag-Lloyd. This market represented an annual increase of 5%.

The manna of skyrocketing freight rates

On the other hand, the company once once more benefited from the excellent economic situation which continued during the period under review in the regular line market.
It has indeed benefited from average freight rates up 70% in one year, from 1,732 USD in the first six months of 2021 to 2,950 USD per TEU this year.
Observers believe that the group has reaped the benefits of a general increase in average rates and in particular those of the transatlantic link which climbed at a time of 100% to settle at 2,862 USD.
Other markets that contributed to Hapag-Lloyd’s good financial health, Latin America (up 88%), Transpacific and Intra-Asia (+85%),
