250-kilo World War II bomb found – closures in Friedrichshain

A bomb from the Second World War was discovered during construction work in Friedrichshain not far from Ostkreuz on Thursday followingnoon. Extensive closures and evacuations are the result.

Stralauer Allee, Elsenbrücke, Elsenstrasse, Alt-Stralau, Markgrafendamm Hauptstrasse, Kynaststrasse, Corinthstrasse, Bossestrasse and Rochwowstrasse are affected by the closures. The police are asking you to drive around the area as far as possible!

The 500-kilogram bomb from World War II was discovered during construction work on the corner of Persiusstrasse and Bödikerstrasse, roughly between the Spree and Ostkreuz train station.

The police specialists have to defuse them before they can be taken away. Before that, everyone has to leave the area, which can take hours.

According to the police, around 12,000 people are affected and have to leave the area. Temporary emergency accommodation has been set up in the Mercedes-Benz Arena for people who have no alternative accommodation.
